In the winter of 2021, a young man's life was tragically cut short in what authorities have described as a domestic violence incident near Colorado Springs, Colorado. Joseph Viera, a 20-year-old male, died on February 4, 2021, from injuries sustained in a shooting. He was one of three victims in a triple homicide-suicide that unfolded in a four-plex in the 4300 block of Loomis Avenue, near Fort Carson.
On the evening of February 3, 2021, deputies from the El Paso County Sheriff's Office
responded to reports of gunshots around 5 p.m. Upon their arrival, they discovered a grim scene with three deceased individuals and one adult, Joseph Viera, suffering from severe injuries. He was rushed to a local hospital but succumbed to his injuries the following day. The other victims were identified as 19-year-old Pheonix Vigil and 17-year-old Sylvio Anglada.
The investigation into the tragic event identified 19-year-old Tristan Griffin as the suspect. The El Paso County Sheriff's Office's Major Crimes Unit is investigating the case as a domestic violence incident.
Joseph, known as 'Joey' to his loved ones, was born on July 18, 2000, in Florida. He had a passion for travel and had achieved a lifelong dream by joining the Army at the age of 18. He was stationed at Fort Carson at the time of his death. Described as someone who always tried to help others, his life was taken while he was trying to assist a friend in a difficult situation. In death, his altruistic spirit continued, as he was an organ donor and helped save the lives of four people.
