In the spring of 2023, the life of Rasheed Jahar Henry, a 23-year-old Black male, was cut tragically short in his hometown of Blytheville, Arkansas. On the evening of Monday, April 10th, events unfolded near the 500 block of East McHaney Street that would end in his untimely death. Officers who arrived at the scene discovered Henry with apparent gunshot wounds.
He was quickly transported to Great River Medical Center, but the injuries he sustained proved to be fatal.
Born in Blytheville on June 5, 1999, Rasheed was a 2017 graduate of Blytheville High School and had continued his education at the University of Central Arkansas. Known to many by the nickname “Big Block,” he had a passion for music and was an avid rapper. Beyond his musical pursuits, he also found enjoyment in reading and was a dedicated fan of the Golden State Warriors basketball team. Those who knew him remembered an infectious smile that could illuminate a room and a personality that was equally bright.
In the wake of his death, the community and his family mourned the loss of a young man with a promising future. Funeral services were held at the First Missionary Baptist Church in Blytheville, where friends and family gathered to pay their final respects. While the circumstances of his death point to a violent end, information regarding any suspects or arrests in connection with the shooting has not been publicly released. The investigation into who was responsible for the death of Rasheed Henry continues.
