Rodney Tabor Lutes, a 54-year-old male, died in his Blytheville, Arkansas home on February 28, 2015. Born in Houma, Louisiana, Lutes had an international upbringing, spending his childhood in countries like Kuwait, Iran, and Egypt. He later attended Arkansas State University, where he was a field goal kicker for the football team.
On that late February day, police officers responded to a call about a shooting at Lutes's residence.
Upon their arrival, they discovered Lutes had been fatally shot in the neck. His roommate, Charles Campbell Jr., was at the scene, attempting to administer CPR.
Following an investigation into the shooting, Charles Campbell Jr. was arrested in connection with his roommate's death. He was initially charged with first-degree murder. The case proceeded to trial, where a jury in Blytheville ultimately convicted Campbell on a lesser charge of manslaughter in June 2016. For his role in the death of Rodney Lutes, Campbell was sentenced to 25 years in prison.
