On the evening of April 7, 2017, the life of 23-year-old Delvin 'Buckii' Meadows, a Black/African American male, was tragically cut short in his lifelong hometown of Blytheville, Arkansas. Meadows, an aspiring musician who worked as a cashier at Walmart, was found unresponsive on a neighbor's porch on the city's west side. He had suffered a gunshot wound to his upper chest.
Despite efforts to save him, he was pronounced dead shortly after.
The initial investigation into Meadows' death was met with challenges. Witnesses in the area reported hearing the sound of gunfire and seeing Meadows on the porch, but no one could identify the person responsible for the shooting. For over a year, the case remained without a resolution, leaving a void in the community and a family grieving without answers. His death marked the second homicide in Blytheville that year, raising concerns about violent crime in the area.
In August 2018, a breakthrough in the year-long investigation led to the arrest of 19-year-old Quincy Whitfield. He was charged with first-degree murder in connection with Meadows' death. In May 2019, Whitfield pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of second-degree murder. As a result of his plea, he was sentenced to 15 years in prison, with an additional 15-year suspended sentence.
