In the summer of 2023, a wave of violence tragically cut short the life of 17-year-old Zamarion Myki Moten in Pine Bluff, Arkansas. On the evening of July 16th, gunfire erupted at a residence located at 2303 West 17th Avenue. The incident was a drive-by shooting, with witnesses reporting that a vehicle approached the home and an individual on the passenger side opened fire.
Zamarion was in the front yard of the house when the shots were fired and was fatally wounded at the scene.
Inside the home, the violence claimed another young life, 14-year-old Vaniya Bennett. An 18-year-old, Kaden McKay, was also inside a bedroom in the house and sustained a gunshot wound but ultimately survived his injuries. The shooting was part of a string of violent crimes that had plagued the city, prompting concern from both law enforcement and the community.
In the aftermath of the double homicide, the Pine Bluff Police Department launched an investigation that led to the identification of two suspects: 19-year-old Trenton Xavion Rogers and 18-year-old Jayvion Marquet Williams. Both men were sought on multiple felony warrants, including two counts of capital murder. Shortly after their identities were released to the public, Jayvion Marquet Williams turned himself in to the authorities and was taken into custody. However, Trenton Xavion Rogers remained at large and was considered to be armed and dangerous.
