A gathering in Jonesboro, Arkansas, took a tragic turn in the early morning hours of March 10, 2024, ending the life of 20-year-old Amari Ialanthe Giles. The young woman was attending a party on Burke Avenue when violence erupted, leaving multiple people shot and two, including Giles, fatally wounded by the same man.
The chaos began when 32-year-old Tarail Moody opened fire inside the party. Authorities later determined that the shooting stemmed from a domestic dispute.
Moody first shot and killed 24-year-old Dwight Starks within the gathering. In the ensuing panic, several other individuals were also wounded.
After the initial shots, Moody made his way to the front of the location, where he encountered Amari Giles and another woman, Daja Giles. He shot both women before turning the gun on himself. Amari Giles suffered severe gunshot wounds and was rushed to a nearby hospital, but she ultimately succumbed to her injuries.
When Jonesboro police arrived at the scene, they discovered a chaotic situation with multiple victims. Tarail Moody was found deceased, and his death was later ruled a suicide by a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
