In the quiet city of Jonesboro, Arkansas, a young life was tragically cut short on May 3, 2014. Floritzel Davila-Bautista, a 12-year-old female, was at her home when a gunman opened fire, ending her life and shattering the peace of the community. A sixth-grade student at the Math and Science Magnet School, Floritzel was known for her love of reading and making bracelets. She was a member of the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church.
On that fateful Saturday afternoon, Porfirio Hernandez, a 40-year-old acquaintance of the family, arrived at the residence and began shooting. The motive for the attack remains unknown. The shooting resulted in the deaths of Floritzel and her father, Crisanto Islas Quijano. Several other family members were also critically injured in the attack, including Augusten Hernandez, Ayde Davila, Anquel Islas, and Brayam Davila. Witnesses at the scene identified Hernandez as the sole gunman.
Following the shooting at the Davila-Bautista home, Hernandez fled the scene. Approximately 20 minutes later, he was involved in a second shooting about three miles away, where another man, Richardo Lopez, was found dead. Shortly after, law enforcement located Hernandez's vehicle on a rural county road. Inside, they discovered Hernandez, who had died from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. The investigation concluded that Hernandez acted alone in the violent rampage that claimed four lives, including that of young Floritzel Davila-Bautista.
