In the early morning hours of February 12, 2024, a burst of gunfire outside a duplex in Sandy, Utah, tragically ended the life of 31-year-old Tony Dejolie. The fatal encounter unfolded around 3:30 a.m. in the vicinity of 635 E. 7800 South, where police were called to the scene. Upon their arrival, they discovered two men had been shot.
Dejolie sustained a fatal gunshot wound and died at the scene.
A second man, later identified as Victor Ray Garcia, who was in his 20s, was also shot and subsequently transported to a local hospital in stable condition. In the immediate aftermath, law enforcement took two individuals to the Sandy Police Department for questioning, though neither was arrested following the interviews.
As the investigation progressed, the Sandy Police Department worked in conjunction with the Salt Lake County District Attorney's Office to piece together the events that led to the deadly shooting. Ultimately, the District Attorney's Office declined to file any charges in connection with Dejolie's death, citing self-defense as the reason. While Garcia was injured in the incident, he was not arrested. The case was consequently closed without any suspects being formally charged.
