A landlord, attempting to collect rent at a house located at 1365 E. 8085 South, entered the basement apartment to find the body of 20-year-old Hispanic/Latino male, Marco Antonio Ibanez. First responders were called to the scene around 3:15 p.m.
for a report of a man in cardiac arrest, but upon arrival, it was evident that Ibanez had succumbed to a fatal gunshot wound.
The scene in the basement bedroom immediately pointed towards a homicide, and the Sandy City Police Department began the arduous task of piecing together the final hours of Ibanez's life. Investigators learned that the house was a rental property with a transient population, making it difficult to determine who had been present around the time of the shooting. It was unclear if Ibanez was a resident of the apartment or merely visiting. The weapon found with this suspect at the time of his arrest was not the weapon used in Ibanez's homicide, and despite this lead, no arrests were ever made in connection with the murder.
