In the summer of 2020, a graduate of Northwest Classen High School and an avid University of Oklahoma football fan, Blake Daniel Shahrestani, a 39-year-old White / Caucasian male, was tragically killed. His life was cut short on July 16, 2020, in a shooting incident that unfolded at his own home in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, near Northeast 18th Street and Martin Luther King Avenue.
The man responsible for his death was Damien Johnny Jacobs, who was 18 years old at the time.
The investigation into the shooting revealed a troubled relationship between Shahrestani and Jacobs, who was the son of Shahrestani's girlfriend. Reports indicate that the two frequently argued, and Jacobs had previously threatened Shahrestani with a gun. The simmering conflict culminated in the fatal shooting, leading to Jacobs's arrest. He was initially charged with first-degree murder for the death of Shahrestani.
The legal proceedings that followed saw a significant change in the charges against Jacobs. The initial first-degree murder charge was amended to manslaughter. On February 24, 2023, Jacobs entered a guilty plea to the lesser charge. He received a four-year deferred sentence, with credit for the 952 days he had already served in the Oklahoma County Jail. This sentence led to his release from custody.
However, Jacobs's freedom was short-lived. On August 23, 2023, he was arrested again in connection with another shooting. He and another individual, Nathaniel James Hernandez, were accused of firing at a trailer house in Oklahoma City. This new incident led to felony charges against Jacobs for being a felon in possession of a firearm and the use of a vehicle in the discharge of a firearm. Consequently, a motion was filed to revoke his suspended sentence from the manslaughter case, and he was returned to the Oklahoma County Jail.
