In the early morning hours of New Year's Day 2023, the life of Randy Ronald Weimerskirch, a 42-year-old White/Caucasian male from Clinton, Iowa, was tragically cut short. At approximately 2:11 a.m. on January 1st, Clinton Police officers were dispatched to 420 Glenwood Place following a report of a shooting. Upon their arrival, they discovered Weimerskirch inside with a gunshot wound.
He was immediately transported to MercyOne Clinton Medical Center, where he was pronounced deceased.
The investigation into Weimerskirch's death quickly led to arrests. The Clinton Police Department, with assistance from the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigations, apprehended three suspects. Kimberly A. Hammond, 25, and Justice K. Foley, 24, were both charged with first-degree murder and first-degree robbery. A third individual, 28-year-old Donivan W.J. Chambers, was arrested and charged with accessory after the fact.
Subsequent legal proceedings have brought some measure of resolution to the case. In January 2025, a jury found Kimberly Hammond guilty of murder and robbery in connection with Weimerskirch's death. Justice Foley had previously pleaded guilty to robbery in August of 2023. Donivan Chambers was facing a pre-trial conference in January 2025 for his alleged role in the events following the murder. Weimerskirch's son, who attended the trial, spoke of the immense pain of losing his father, who he described as a dependable and giving person who loved nature and was skilled at fixing things for anyone in need.
