On the evening of June 12, 2025, a fatal shooting in Clinton, Iowa, resulted in the death of 44-year-old Caucasian male, Andrew Edmund Higgins. The incident unfolded inside a vehicle where Higgins was a passenger, along with a female driver and another man, Aaron Davis.
Earlier in the evening, Higgins and Davis had been together before being picked up by the woman. The trio was reportedly on their way to a casino, and Higgins was said to be in possession of money.
An altercation broke out between Higgins and Davis while they were in the car. During the struggle, Davis allegedly fired a gun multiple times, striking Higgins. After the shooting, the female driver immediately drove to a local hospital.
Upon their arrival at the hospital, law enforcement officers found Higgins suffering from a gunshot wound. Despite medical efforts, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead. The suspect, Aaron Davis, fled the scene after the shooting. He was apprehended by police following a brief vehicle pursuit.
During questioning, Davis admitted to shooting Higgins but claimed he had been assaulted first; however, officers reported observing no visible injuries on him. He also confessed to fleeing the scene, changing his clothes, and hiding the firearm and other evidence in a nearby wooded area. Davis denied stealing any money from the victim, though no money was recovered from the scene. Following the investigation, Aaron Davis was arrested and charged with first-degree murder. He was subsequently booked into the Clinton County Jail.
