An argument outside a bar in Marshalltown, Iowa, turned fatal in the early morning hours of June 1, 2024. Ramon Alexis Feliciano Nieves, a 41-year-old Hispanic man, was shot and killed during the dispute. The incident began around 1:20 a.m. at the Center Street Station bar on North Center Street. According to a criminal complaint, an altercation started after a man threw a cup on the ground and was confronted.
The man, later identified as the suspect, pushed two people, then pulled out a firearm and fired multiple shots at Nieves. First responders arrived to find Nieves suffering from a gunshot wound. They administered emergency medical care before he was transported to a hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
The Marshalltown Police Department, assisted by the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation, quickly identified 18-year-old Victor Antonio Delgadillo of Marshalltown as the shooter. An arrest warrant was issued for Delgadillo on charges of Murder in the First Degree and Harassment in the First Degree. Authorities noted that Delgadillo had been previously arrested in April 2024 for possession of a stolen firearm and warned that he should be considered armed and dangerous.
As the search for Delgadillo began, police stated their belief that he was receiving help to evade capture and warned that anyone found to be aiding him would be arrested and prosecuted. Marshall County Crime Stoppers offered a reward that grew to $5,000 for information leading to his arrest. On June 25, investigators made their first arrest in the case, taking a 15-year-old male into custody. The juvenile was charged with Accessory after the Fact and Possession with Intent to Deliver Marijuana and was transported to a juvenile detention facility. At the time, police said they planned to make more arrests.
After a manhunt that lasted over two months, the U.S. Marshals tracked Delgadillo to Anaheim, California. On August 9, 2024, law enforcement authorities located him near a Motel 6. During an attempt to take him into custody, an officer-involved shooting occurred. Delgadillo was shot during the incident and transported to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead from his injuries. No law enforcement officers were injured. As of August 2024, the investigation was reported to be continuing.
