In the small community of Raymond, Iowa, the life of Brent Schaefer, a 36-year-old Caucasian male, came to a sudden and tragic end. On the evening of Saturday, June 5, 2021, emergency services were dispatched to a residence on Hillcrest Street following a report of a man having shot himself. Upon arrival, sheriff's deputies and Evansdale Fire Rescue personnel found Schaefer with a gunshot wound.
Initially, he was rushed to a hospital in nearby Waterloo for urgent medical attention.
Due to the severity of his injuries, he was subsequently transferred to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City. Despite the efforts of medical professionals, Brent Schaefer succumbed to his injuries and passed away in the early morning hours of Sunday, June 6, 2021.
Following an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shooting, the Black Hawk County Sheriff's Office determined that the incident was accidental. Officials concluded that Schaefer had unintentionally shot himself. As a result of this finding, there were no arrests made in connection with his death, and no suspects were sought. The case was closed as a tragic accident, leaving friends and family to mourn the unexpected loss of a man described as an avid outdoorsman who loved to fish and hunt.
