On September 11, 2015, Mohammad Nabeel Mirzai, a 19-year-old resident of Des Moines, Iowa, lost his life to gun violence. Mirzai was one of the two victims in a double homicide that occurred in the same vicinity. The other victim was Demetrius Thomas, a 20-year-old also from Des Moines. The bodies of the two men were found just a block apart near the intersection of 22nd Street and Forest Avenue in Des Moines.
