In Fort Dodge, Iowa, on September 10, 2019, the life of 17-year-old Daiqualis Poe was cut short in a tragic incident. A senior at Fort Dodge Senior High School, the young Black/African American male died from a single gunshot wound.
The event unfolded inside a residence at 721 N. Eighth St. Emergency services were dispatched to the home at approximately 12:45 p.m., where they found Poe's body.
According to the Fort Dodge Police Department, the shooting was accidental.
Investigators determined that a family member had fired the handgun that resulted in Poe's death. While the investigation was ongoing with assistance from the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation and the Webster County Attorney's Office, authorities stated that they did not suspect foul play.
In the wake of the tragedy, the police department extended its condolences to Poe's family and friends. Authorities did not release the age or name of the family member involved in the accidental shooting, and there have been no public announcements regarding any arrests or charges in connection with the incident.
