In a tragic turn of events on July 29, 2022, 17-year-old Hector Matthew Pena-Dominguez, a Hispanic male, was fatally shot in west Phoenix. The incident unfolded around 1:30 p.m. in the area of 6800 West Devonshire Avenue.
Following the shooting, Pena-Dominguez was driven to a local hospital by several individuals. He was admitted in critical condition, suffering from a gunshot wound.
Despite medical efforts, he ultimately succumbed to his injuries.
Phoenix police were notified about the arrival of a gunshot victim at the hospital and promptly began an investigation. Officers interviewed the people who brought Pena-Dominguez to the hospital and were able to determine the location of the shooting. Upon securing the scene on West Devonshire Avenue, investigators continued to interview witnesses in the neighborhood to piece together the events that led to the fatal shooting.
The investigation led to the identification of a suspect, and a juvenile male was arrested in connection with the death of Hector Matthew Pena-Dominguez.
