In the warm evening of July 2, 2024, in Surprise, Arizona, the life of 18-year-old De'Von Jones was irrevocably altered. A Black male, De'Von was at a house party near 168th Avenue and Jenan Drive when a dispute escalated into violence. During the fight, another young man, 18-year-old Daniel Majok, allegedly pulled out a handgun and fired multiple times, striking Jones in the upper body. While witnesses scattered in the ensuing chaos, Majok fled the scene before law enforcement arrived.
