In the early morning hours of August 2, 2024, a residence in the 2500 block of East Cambridge Ring Drive in Tucson, Arizona, became the scene of a fatal shooting. Just after 6:00 a.m., officers from the Tucson Police Department were dispatched to the home following reports of gunfire. Upon their arrival, they discovered Adam Lee Arndt, a 31-year-old man, suffering from gunshot trauma.
Emergency responders from the Tucson Fire Department immediately began life-saving measures, but despite their efforts, Arndt was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Homicide detectives were called to the location to begin an investigation. According to statements from witnesses, an argument had erupted between Arndt and another resident of the home, 20-year-old Jayden Betters. The confrontation escalated, at which point Betters allegedly retrieved a firearm and shot Arndt. After the shooting, Betters fled the residence on foot.
Officers quickly located Jayden Betters near East Irvington Road and South Tucson Boulevard and took him into custody. Following interviews with Betters and the execution of a search warrant at the home the two men shared, detectives arrested Betters. He was charged with first-degree murder, aggravated assault, and prohibited possession of a firearm and was subsequently booked into the Pima County Jail.
The case proceeded to trial, and on August 28, 2026, a jury found Jayden Betters guilty of first-degree murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. As of September 2026, Betters was awaiting his sentencing, which was scheduled for October 5.
