On August 16, 2023, the 22-year-old was found shot at a mobile home park situated near Prince Road and Fairview Avenue. Despite the efforts of first responders, he succumbed to his injuries at the scene. His death was investigated by the Tucson Police Department as a homicide.
Jesus, born in Tucson on October 16, 2000, was a beloved son, brother, and friend.
Known for his sense of humor and warm hugs, he had a passion for sports, having been drafted by a semi-pro soccer team and receiving a baseball scholarship before the pandemic altered his plans. He was a hardworking individual, holding down two jobs while attending school, and had recently achieved his goal of becoming a homeowner. His family remembers him as a loving and caring person who was a warrior in spirit.
The investigation into his untimely death led to the arrest of 18-year-old Jose Fernandez. He was taken into custody and charged with first-degree murder in connection with the shooting of Jesus Duarte. Fernandez was subsequently booked into the Pima County Jail on a one-million-dollar bond. While an arrest has been made, the circumstances that led to the fatal shooting remain under investigation by the authorities.
