In the early morning hours of June 7, 2018, a violent encounter in Tucson left a 54-year-old man, Michael Grove, dead and a woman critically injured. The incident unfolded just after 7:00 a.m. in the 200 block of West Illinois Street, where police discovered both Grove and an adult female in the roadway with gunshot wounds.
Emergency services transported both victims to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. Shortly after arrival, Michael Grove was pronounced deceased.
The female victim, who was in critical but stable condition, was able to provide investigators with crucial information about the events that had transpired.
Detectives learned that Grove had been visiting the female victim at her home when her 37-year-old ex-boyfriend, Daniel Miller, arrived. An altercation ensued, during which Miller allegedly brandished a handgun and shot both Grove and the woman. Miller then fled the scene in a dark-colored pickup truck.
Later that same day, authorities issued a felony arrest warrant for Daniel Benjamin Miller, charging him with one count of First Degree Murder and one count of Domestic Violence/Attempted Murder. He was later located and taken into custody in Phoenix after sustaining self-inflicted injuries during an attempt to flee. After receiving medical treatment, he was slated to be booked into jail on the outstanding warrant.
