In the early morning hours of July 14, 2021, a tragedy unfolded in the parking lot of the Green Leaf at Broadway apartment complex on Tucson's east side that cut short the life of 19-year-old Dean Ryan Marcishak. The young man was discovered around 6 a.m. having been fatally shot. Responders pronounced him dead at the scene, leaving a community to grapple with the sudden and violent loss.
The motive behind the shooting was determined to be an attempted armed robbery.
In the days that followed, an investigation by the Tucson Police Department led to the identification of two teenage suspects. Authorities arrested a 16-year-old, Brian Lann, after evidence connecting him to the crime was discovered in a nearby apartment. Shortly after, a 15-year-old, Samuel Salisbury Jones, was also taken into custody by Tucson SWAT and K9 officers.
Both teenagers faced serious charges for their alleged involvement in the death of Dean Marcishak. Lann and Jones were charged with first-degree murder. Lann was also charged with attempted armed robbery, while Jones faced two counts of attempted armed robbery and a felony probation violation. The two were booked into the Pima County Adult Detention Center to await legal proceedings for their roles in the incident that ended a young life.
