In the quiet community of Kingman, Arizona, the summer of 2015 was shattered by a tragic event that claimed the life of 57-year-old Kelly Rhae Orsolini. On August 4th, a welfare check requested after reports of shots fired led Mohave County Sheriff's deputies to a residence in the 2300 block of East Northfield Avenue, where they made a grim discovery.
Inside the home, deputies found Ms. Orsolini, who had succumbed to multiple gunshot wounds.
In the same room was 77-year-old John Arthur Sorensen. He was found clutching a 9 mm handgun and, though still alive when authorities arrived, would later die from a single, self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.
The investigation that followed painted a dark picture of the final moments within the house. The Mohave County medical examiner's office officially ruled the incident a murder-suicide. The evidence suggested that Sorensen had shot and killed Orsolini before turning the gun on himself. With the sole suspect deceased, the case was closed, leaving a community to mourn the violent and sudden loss of a life.
