In a tragic turn of events, 43-year-old Amber Lee Soster was found with multiple gunshot wounds at a residence in the 1600 block of Thompson Avenue in Kingman, Arizona. The shooting was reported at approximately 5:45 p.m. on a Tuesday. Despite being rushed to a local hospital, she succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead.
The immediate suspect in the shooting was identified as her husband, Brent Phillip Soster, also 43, from Twentynine Palms, California.
Following the incident, an alert was issued to law enforcement agencies to be on the lookout for him. Nearly four hours after the discovery of his wife's fatal injuries, Brent Soster's 2005 Dodge pickup truck was spotted by San Bernardino County deputies on Highway 95.
When deputies attempted to pull him over, Brent Soster sped away, leading them on a chase towards Joshua Tree. During the pursuit on Highway 62, he reportedly threw a smoke grenade from his vehicle and began firing a gun at the pursuing deputies, as well as at a sheriff's helicopter overhead. Law enforcement ultimately used lethal force to stop his vehicle, though he was not killed. He was taken into custody and treated for lacerations at a nearby hospital. A search of his truck revealed several firearms, a tactical ballistic vest, a gas mask, additional smoke grenades, and multiple rounds of ammunition. Brent Soster was booked into the West Valley Detention Center in Rancho Cucamonga on suspicion of attempted murder and is also facing a murder charge in Arizona in connection with his wife's death.
