Do you know who killed Sean Spence in 2019? On the evening of November 20, 2019, Sean Spence, a 46-year-old male, was shot and killed outside of his home in Capitol Heights, Maryland. The incident occurred at approximately 7:30 p.m. in the 5700 block of Rollins Lane. Patrol officers from the Prince George's County Police Department responded to a report of a shooting and found Spence suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
He was transported to a local hospital where he died a short time later.
For more than two years, the case remained under investigation, with detectives working to identify a suspect and a motive for the shooting. A reward of up to $25,000 was offered for information leading to an arrest and indictment in the case. Investigators canvassed the neighborhood in the days following the homicide, seeking information from the community.
A significant break in the case came on January 9, 2022, when 28-year-old Troy Cleveland, Jr., of District Heights, turned himself in to the Maryland State Police. Cleveland admitted his involvement in the fatal shooting to investigators. He was subsequently charged with first and second-degree murder, as well as other related charges. Cleveland was taken into the custody of the Department of Corrections and held on a no-bond status. While a definitive motive was still under investigation, preliminary information suggested that Spence may not have been the intended target of the shooting.
