In a tragic case of domestic violence, 32-year-old Maria G. Zarate-Garcia, a Hispanic female, lost her life on June 24, 2016, in Phoenix, Arizona. The distressing event took place at her residence near 10th Street and Indian School Road, where she lived with her 30-year-old husband, Jesus Castro-Sanchez.
The day before the incident, Castro-Sanchez had started contacting Maria's mother, urging her to come to the house.
When she was finally able to visit on that Friday afternoon, she heard a sound believed to be a single gunshot as she approached the home. Upon entering, she made the horrific discovery of the bodies of both her daughter, Maria, and her son-in-law, Jesus.
Phoenix police were called to the scene shortly before noon. The subsequent investigation determined that the incident was a murder-suicide. It is believed that Jesus Castro-Sanchez shot and killed his wife, Maria, at some point before her mother's arrival. When his mother-in-law reached the residence, he then turned the gun on himself. Authorities confirmed that no one else was present inside the home at the time. The case is considered closed as the suspect in Maria's murder is deceased.
