In the autumn of 2017, the life of Mikhail Khachaturov, a 56-year-old White / Caucasian male, was tragically cut short in Phoenix, Arizona. On the afternoon of October 21st, at approximately 1:30 p.m., Khachaturov was at his place of employment, a gold buying store located at 500 E. Dunlap Ave in the northern part of the city. It was on this seemingly ordinary Saturday that a single gunshot echoed from within the business, a sound that would signify the end of a life.
Witnesses at the
scene reported hearing the shot that proved fatal for Khachaturov. The immediate aftermath of the incident brought a swift response from law enforcement, who launched an investigation into the homicide. Surveillance footage from the area captured images of a potential suspect, described as a Black male. This individual was reportedly wearing a tan jumpsuit, a beanie, and glasses, and was seen carrying a black-and-white backpack.
In the wake of the shooting, the Phoenix Police Department has been actively seeking information from the public to aid in their investigation. The case also drew the attention of the Jewelers Security Alliance, an organization focused on the safety of those in the jewelry industry. Highlighting a concerning trend of violence against individuals in this line of work, the alliance noted that Khachaturov's death was one of several similar incidents to occur that year. In an effort to bring the person responsible to justice, the organization has offered a monetary reward for information that leads to the arrest of the suspect in this case. As of now, the investigation remains ongoing.
