A young man's life was cut tragically short in the early morning hours of Sunday, August 28, 2022, in Phoenix, Arizona. Robert Puentes, a 21-year-old male, was attending a large house party in the vicinity of 2700 E. South Mountain Avenue when violence erupted. Just days after celebrating his twenty-first birthday, he found himself in a chaotic scene that would end his life.
At approximately 2:18 a.m., while Puentes and numerous other partygoers were in the backyard of the residence,
multiple gunshots were fired. In the ensuing confusion, both Robert Puentes and his 21-year-old cousin, Xavier Martinez, were struck by the gunfire. The two cousins, described as having an inseparable bond, died from their injuries at the scene.
The Phoenix community was left mourning the loss of the two young men. In the days that followed, family and friends gathered for a vigil to remember and honor them. The family expressed their devastation, remembering the immense impact the cousins had on everyone who knew them.
