On April 17, 2023, 18-year-old Elijah Johnson was fatally shot at an extended stay motel in north Phoenix, near the intersection of Dunlap Avenue and Interstate 17. The incident occurred around 3:30 p.m. when Johnson got into a verbal argument with his 17-year-old cousin, Sir Amir Williamson, inside a motel room. The argument escalated, and Williamson allegedly shot Johnson.
