In a tragic turn of events stemming from a family dispute, 18-year-old Elijah Johnson lost his life in Phoenix, Arizona. The young man, a male, was fatally shot on a Monday afternoon in April 2023, inside a motel room situated near Interstate 17 and Dunlap Avenue. Responding to an emergency call, Phoenix police officers discovered Johnson on the ground with a gunshot wound.
He was quickly transported to a nearby hospital, but tragically succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.
The investigation into the homicide swiftly pointed towards a suspect close to home: Johnson's own 17-year-old cousin, Sir Amir Williamson. Detectives determined that a verbal argument between the two cousins escalated, leading to the fatal shooting. Following the incident, Williamson fled the scene, prompting a search by law enforcement who considered him to be armed and dangerous. The Phoenix Police Department reached out to the public for any information regarding his whereabouts.
A few days after the shooting, the search for the suspect came to an end when Sir Amir Williamson turned himself into the Phoenix Police Headquarters. Following an interview with detectives, he was taken into custody and booked into the Juvenile Correction Center on a murder charge. In connection with the case, Williamson's 45-year-old mother, Tanyelle Williams, was also arrested and is facing charges of hindering prosecution for allegedly hiding her son to help him evade apprehension. The family, who had recently relocated to Phoenix from Mississippi, was left to grapple with the devastating loss of one young man and the grim reality of the other's alleged actions.
