In Tempe, Arizona, on September 17, 2018, a dispute over money inside a vehicle turned fatal for 28-year-old Marco Antonio Hernandez. While at the intersection of Priest Drive and Baseline Road, Hernandez was shot by another passenger in the car. After the shooting, the suspect fled the scene on foot. Hernandez was quickly transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries, but he was pronounced dead shortly after his arrival.
The Tempe Police Department promptly began an
investigation and identified 24-year-old Matthew Joshua Uriarte as the suspected shooter. An argument over money was determined to be the motive behind the violent act. Authorities launched a search for Uriarte, considering him to be armed and dangerous.
The manhunt for Uriarte concluded on September 28, 2018, when he was located and apprehended. The arrest was a collaborative effort between the Tempe Police Department and the U.S. Marshals Violent Offender Task Force. Following his capture, Matthew Uriarte was booked into the Tempe City Jail, facing a charge of second-degree murder for his role in the death of Marco Hernandez.
