On May 8, 2020, Joseph Delegge, a 22-year-old man from Tempe, Arizona, was fatally shot after he stopped to help the victim of a hit-and-run car crash. Delegge witnessed the crash near the intersection of the 202 and Scottsdale and immediately stopped to assist the person involved.

The incident took a tragic turn when the driver of the vehicle involved in the crash, a 17-year-old, shot Delegge. Despite his good intentions, Delegge's attempt to help ended in his death.
