Justin Hein was a 27-year-old White/Caucasian man living in the Hidden Valley area of Maricopa, Arizona. Remembered by his mother as "a beautiful person with a kind and caring spirit," his life was tragically cut short on the evening of January 15, 2021.
That night, Justin was in his home when he was shot and killed by his roommate. According to a post from his mother, he was shot three times in the chest in what she called a "cold blooded murder of an innocent."
First responders pronounced Justin dead at the scene.
Justin's roommate, Carlos Correa Ortiz, remained at the residence until deputies from the Pinal County Sheriff's Office arrived. He was arrested at the scene and taken into custody.
Ortiz was booked into the Pinal County jail and charged with first-degree murder. In a subsequent court proceeding, a judge declined a request to extend the case and scheduled a trial to begin on August 23. As of that development, the case was proceeding through the court system.
