In the early morning hours of January 25, 2021, a call reporting a single-vehicle collision brought Phoenix police officers to the area of 2500 West McLellan Boulevard. Upon arrival, they discovered 33-year-old Anthony James Martin II, a male, inside the vehicle with a gunshot wound. Lifesaving efforts were unsuccessful, and he was pronounced dead at the scene. What initially appeared to be a car accident was quickly reclassified as a homicide investigation.
