In the spring of 2021, a young woman's life was cut tragically short in Phoenix, Arizona. Mikayla Sofia Ballesteros, a 23-year-old female, was killed on Saturday, April 10, 2021. On that afternoon, around 3:30 p.m., police responded to calls concerning an assault occurring within a moving vehicle that ultimately crashed into a house.
Upon their arrival, officers discovered Mikayla Ballesteros in the passenger seat of the car, unresponsive and suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
She was transported to a local hospital in extremely critical condition, but succumbed to her injuries. The driver of the vehicle was identified as her 37-year-old boyfriend, Carnell Cunningham.
Bystanders at the scene of the crash courageously intervened, preventing Cunningham from fleeing before the police arrived. Following an investigation by detectives, Carnell Cunningham was arrested and taken into custody. He faced suspicion of murder and aggravated assault in connection with the death of his girlfriend. The motive for the shooting was not immediately made public by the authorities.
