In the fall of 2013, a house party on the southwest side of Phoenix turned into a scene of violence that claimed the life of 19-year-old Nora Osman. On the night of November 9th, as the party near Southern and 53rd avenues was winding down, chaos erupted when occupants of a red Cadillac opened fire. Osman was standing on a corner when the shots were fired, and she was struck.
Three other individuals, an 18-year-old woman, a 21-year-old man, and a 22-year-old man, were also wounded in the shooting but were expected to survive their injuries.
Emergency services arrived to find a frantic scene with approximately 30 shell casings littering the ground, indicating that at least four different firearms had been discharged. It appeared that at least one person from the area where Osman and the other victims were standing had returned fire. Osman was rushed to a local hospital, but her injuries proved to be fatal, and she was pronounced dead. Friends and family described her as a student at Phoenix College.
The investigation into the gang-related drive-by shooting led to a series of arrests. Marquis Young, 18, was taken into custody on January 14th of the following year and faced eight charges, including first-degree murder. He was held on a $1 million bond. Subsequently, authorities charged three more individuals in connection with the fatal shooting: D'Drique Price and Theodore Montgomery, both 18, and a 15-year-old boy. They faced a litany of charges, including first-degree murder, felony murder, drive-by shooting, and assisting a criminal street gang. The alleged driver of the vehicle, Jacorion Tyrell White, also known as “Coco,” was also apprehended and booked on a charge of first-degree murder.
