In the summer of 2021, the life of 40-year-old Morgan Rockwell Fincher was tragically cut short in a burst of violence on the east side of Tucson, Arizona. On the night of Saturday, July 31st, police were summoned to the 8100 block of East Mountvale Drive, a residential area, following reports of a shooting. Upon their arrival, they discovered Fincher with injuries that were clearly the result of gunfire.
Despite the immediate medical attention he received at the scene, he was soon pronounced dead.
The investigation into the death of the male victim quickly zeroed in on a suspect. Within a couple of days, the Tucson Police Department made an arrest in connection with the homicide. The individual taken into custody was identified as Gabriel Valenzuela. The nature of the relationship between Fincher and Valenzuela, and the circumstances that led to the fatal encounter, were central to the ensuing investigation.
Further inquiries by detectives revealed that the shooting was not a random act of violence. It was determined that the incident stemmed from an argument that had escalated. Valenzuela was subsequently booked into the Pima County Jail on a charge of second-degree murder, bringing a swift, if not entirely clarifying, development to a case that had abruptly ended a man's life.
