On January 14, 2022, Douglas James Brandell, a 38-year-old security guard, was fatally shot in the area of 7th Street and Bell Road in north Phoenix, Arizona. The incident occurred around 10:30 p.m. while Brandell was on duty at The Bellridge Apartments, located at 844 East Bell Road.

Brandell had moved to Phoenix in May 2013 and had been living there until his death. He is survived by his mother and stepfather, among other family members.
