Delfino Picazo, a 59-year-old male, was killed while simply doing his job on the morning of April 6, 2020, in downtown Phoenix. He worked as a medical transport driver, and just before 5:30 a.m., he was waiting in his car for a passenger at an apartment complex near 2nd Avenue and McKinley Street. It was there that he was approached by an individual who demanded money at gunpoint.
During the armed robbery, Picazo was fatally shot and was pronounced dead at the scene.
For nine months, his family, who lived in California, waited for answers in the case. The Phoenix Police Department's investigation eventually led them to focus on social media, which proved to be the key to identifying a suspect. According to court documents, investigators discovered that an 18-year-old had sent messages and spoken to at least six people, directly and indirectly admitting his involvement in the murder. Detectives learned that after the shooting, the suspect had fled to the Hopi Reservation and stayed there until he believed it was safe to come back to Phoenix.
In January 2021, authorities arrested 18-year-old Kennon Grover in connection with the homicide. Upon his arrest, Grover reportedly told officers that he felt bad about the shooting and had discarded the gun in a canal. He was taken into custody and booked on charges of first-degree murder and armed robbery, with his bond being set at one million dollars. The arrest brought a measure of peace to Picazo's family, who remembered him as a hardworking and positive man who loved his wife and children.
