In the late hours of March 1, 2022, the life of 19-year-old Adrian Rufgio Beaulieu was cut short in a south Phoenix apartment. A young man of mixed race, Beaulieu was found by police with a fatal gunshot wound around 11:30 p.m. at a residence near 7th Avenue and Alta Vista Road. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Initial investigations by Phoenix police were met with conflicting stories from the witnesses present in the apartment.
As detectives delved deeper, the accounts of what transpired changed multiple times, leading to suspicions of a cover-up. It was later determined that Beaulieu was apparently shot accidentally by a 16-year-old male who was also in the apartment.
The investigation led to the arrest of four individuals. The unidentified 16-year-old was taken into custody in connection with the shooting. Additionally, three adults present at the scene were arrested for allegedly impeding the investigation. Deanna Silva, 36, Daniel Ruelas, 20, and Eric Buchanan, 38, were accused of hiding evidence and providing false information to investigators in an attempt to conceal the circumstances surrounding Beaulieu's death. The investigation into the tragic shooting is ongoing.
