On a late Thursday afternoon in Phoenix, Arizona, the life of 33-year-old Luis Mendez-Armenta was tragically cut short. On June 26, 2025, at approximately 2:53 p.m., a burst of gunfire erupted at a residential complex located at 6700 West Indian School Road. When police officers arrived at the scene, they discovered two men who had sustained multiple gunshot wounds.
One of the men, later identified as 36-year-old Mario Martinez, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Phoenix Fire
Department. Luis Mendez-Armenta, critically injured, was rushed to a local hospital. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, he succumbed to his injuries and passed away. The suspect, or suspects, had fled the scene before law enforcement arrived, leaving behind a community in shock and a police department with a double homicide to solve.

On June 30, 2025, authorities publicly identified 34-year-old Emmanuel “Manny” Rojas as an individual they wished to interview regarding his potential involvement in the incident. The police cautioned the public not to approach Rojas, who was born on December 6, 1990, and urged anyone with information about his location to contact the Phoenix Police or make an anonymous tip to Silent Witness.
Despite the identification of a person of interest, the investigation into the deaths of Luis Mendez-Armenta and Mario Martinez remains ongoing.
