On October 2, 2022, in Shorterville, Alabama, 26-year-old Danny Dale Cullins Jr. was fatally shot during a barbecue gathering in the 3700 block of Henry County Road 57. An argument over seating escalated between Cullins and 22-year-old Ryan Antonio Tolbert, both residents of Shorterville. Tolbert left the event, retrieved a shotgun from his home, returned, and allegedly shot Cullins in the neck. Following the incident, Tolbert surrendered to authorities and was charged with capital murder.
