In the early morning hours of March 11, 2023, the life of 30-year-old Julian Reynolds of Arizona City was tragically cut short. His body was discovered on Isom Road, near the Elzy Pearson Shooting Range in Casa Grande, with multiple gunshot wounds. Reynolds, a graduate of Casa Verde High School, was known to frequent the area to collect brass casings, a hobby he enjoyed in his spare time.
The events that led to his death began when 21-year-old Roberto Barrera and 20-year-old Victor Leal,
both from Casa Grande, ran out of gas while driving in the area with a 16-year-old friend. As they waited for another friend to bring them fuel, Barrera and Leal allegedly burglarized a vehicle they came across. That vehicle belonged to Julian Reynolds.
A confrontation ensued when Reynolds discovered the two men breaking into his vehicle. During this confrontation, Reynolds was fatally shot. Barrera and Leal then fled the scene in their own vehicle after taking some of Reynolds' property. The 16-year-old who was with them ran away from the scene.
Following an investigation, detectives from the Casa Grande Police Department identified Barrera and Leal as the primary suspects. They were located and taken into custody without incident. Authorities also recovered evidence of the crime, including the murder weapon, which was found in the desert near the crime scene, and Reynolds' stolen property. Both Barrera and Leal were booked into the Pinal County Adult Detention Center on charges of first-degree murder, third-degree burglary, and tampering with evidence. A fourth individual, a 16-year-old juvenile, will also face charges of tampering with evidence for allegedly assisting in hiding evidence.
