In the bright morning light of a south Phoenix neighborhood, a life was suddenly and violently cut short, leaving a community in shock and a family heartbroken. On Sunday, September 24, 2023, 35-year-old Ashley Michaela Smith, a resident of nearby Glendale, was fatally shot in what has been described as a random act of gun violence.
