In the autumn of 2023, a welfare check at a Tucson, Arizona, apartment complex on Ajo Way led to a grim discovery. On October 11th, police officers entered an unoccupied apartment to find the bodies of 37-year-old Courtney-Ann Kanani Pregil and 32-year-old Tylor James Wheeler. Both had suffered fatal gunshot wounds. Investigators learned that neither Pregil, a female, nor Wheeler were residents of the apartment where they were found, adding another layer of mystery to the double homicide.
The Tucson Police Department's Homicide Unit immediately began an investigation. Early on, their focus turned to a person of interest, 35-year-old Ryan Jacob Blouin, who was known to be an acquaintance of Tylor Wheeler. As detectives delved deeper into the case, conducting numerous interviews and executing multiple search warrants, Blouin was arrested in January 2024 on unrelated federal charges and subsequently incarcerated in California.
For months, the investigation continued as detectives diligently followed up on leads. A significant breakthrough occurred in September 2025 when Blouin, while still in federal custody, admitted to his involvement in the killings. Following an interview with Tucson police detectives, he was officially named the primary suspect in the double homicide. Ryan Jacob Blouin remains in federal custody, awaiting extradition to Pima County, where he will face charges for the murders of Courtney-Ann Kanani Pregil and Tylor James Wheeler.
