In the summer of 2024, the life of 25-year-old Anthony Frederickson-Ceccarelli was tragically cut short in a violent encounter that also claimed the lives of two others. On July 15, Phoenix firefighters responded to a blaze at an apartment in the Ahwatukee area, located at 13229 S. 48th Street. Inside the residence, they made a grim discovery: the bodies of Frederickson-Ceccarelli, Merissa Honeycutt, 27, and Samuel Lott, 37.
Investigators quickly determined that the fire was not the
cause of their deaths. The victims showed signs of trauma that were inconsistent with the fire, leading the Phoenix Police Department to launch a triple homicide investigation. Neighbors reported hearing screaming from the apartment, suggesting a violent struggle had taken place. The investigation revealed that one victim had been fatally stabbed, another shot to death, and the third had been both shot and stabbed. It appeared that the victims had fought back against their attacker.
The investigation led to the arrest of 30-year-old Chase Scott Christman of Mesa just five days later, on July 19. Christman was an associate of all three victims. During an interview with police, he admitted to being at the apartment but denied committing the murders. However, physical and digital evidence linked him to the crime scene, including his DNA which was matched to blood found in the apartment. Investigators also noted that Christman had cuts on his hands at the time of his arrest, further evidence of a struggle. Police believe Christman acted alone.
Prosecutors asserted that Christman had gone to the apartment with the intention of getting drugs and stealing money. In June of 2025, Chase Scott Christman pleaded guilty to charges of murder and robbery. He was subsequently sentenced to life in prison for the deaths of Anthony Frederickson-Ceccarelli, Merissa Honeycutt, and Samuel Lott.
