On a warm evening in Phoenix, Arizona, William Ray White, a 40-year-old man, was walking behind a business complex near McDowell Road and 43rd Avenue. The date was Sunday, May 5, 2024, and the time was approximately 6:30 p.m. His walk was tragically interrupted when a man riding a white bicycle approached him. Without warning, the cyclist produced a handgun and shot William, inflicting at least one fatal gunshot wound.
The suspect then fled the scene, heading northbound on 47th Avenue on his bicycle.
Phoenix police officers responded to a call about an injured person in the area of 47th Avenue and Brill Street around 10:00 p.m. Upon arrival, they discovered William White, who had succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene despite the life-saving efforts of the Phoenix Fire Department. Investigators have since been working to piece together the events of that evening and bring justice for William's death.
As of now, no arrests have been made in the case. The suspect is described as a Hispanic or Native American male, estimated to be between 30 and 40 years old with a medium build and possibly dark-colored hair. He was last seen wearing a black baseball cap with a white logo, a gray hooded sweatshirt, a dark-colored shirt, a circular pendant necklace, and black athletic shorts. Surveillance footage captured the suspect leaving the scene on a white bicycle, and he was last spotted near 48th Avenue and McDowell Road. Authorities are urging anyone with information about this homicide to come forward and have offered a cash reward for tips that lead to an arrest.
