In the early morning hours of January 7, 2017, the life of 40-year-old Seth Hansen, a White male, was tragically cut short in Omaha, Nebraska. Hansen was working as the weekend closer at the Speedee Mart convenience store at 138th and West Maple Street. Shortly after midnight, a man identified as Dirk Blume, a local real estate agent, arrived at the store hoping to purchase chewing tobacco. Hansen informed Blume that the store was closed, which led to an argument between the two men.
Following the dispute, Blume departed in his pickup truck.
As Hansen continued with his closing duties, which included taking out the garbage, he was struck by a vehicle in the store's vicinity. Surveillance footage captured a pickup truck, later identified as belonging to Blume, circling the area before the incident. After hitting Hansen, the truck fled the scene, leaving him injured by the curb. Initially responding to a call of shots fired, police discovered Hansen and transported him to a local hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. The incident was Omaha's first homicide of the year.
The investigation into Hansen's death quickly led authorities to Dirk Blume. Police sought information about a 2001-2003 Ford F-150 seen leaving the gas station around the time of the killing. Blume was subsequently arrested and faced serious charges, including second-degree murder and the use of a weapon to commit a felony. Described by loved ones as a funny, good-hearted, and stand-up guy who often performed random acts of kindness, Seth Hansen was a father who leaves behind a daughter.
