In the summer of 2021, a young Caucasian woman's life was tragically cut short, leading to a cross-state homicide investigation. Twenty-three-year-old Leah Verratti was found deceased on Tuesday, August 3, 2021, in Fairmont Park in Council Bluffs, Iowa. Though her body was discovered in Iowa, investigators with the Council Bluffs Police Department soon determined that the crime had originated in Omaha, Nebraska.
The Omaha Police Department's Homicide Unit took the lead in the case and
their investigation pointed to a storage unit parking lot at 6110 Irvington Road as the primary crime scene. The collaborative effort between the two police departments led them to identify a suspect in the case. The investigation revealed that Verratti died as a result of gun violence.
Authorities identified 46-year-old Ralph Bullard as the suspect in Leah Verratti's murder. At the time he was identified, Bullard was already in custody in Leavenworth, Kansas, on unrelated charges. An arrest warrant was issued for Bullard, and he was subsequently extradited to Omaha to face charges related to Verratti's death. He was booked into Douglas County Corrections on charges of second-degree murder, use of a weapon to commit a felony, possession of a stolen firearm, and theft by unlawful taking for a stolen vehicle.
