Brittney Alexander, a White/Caucasian female, was shot to death during a domestic-violence incident at a home near Madison and Perry Streets in Papillion, Nebraska, on the evening of Saturday, August 26, 2023. Police identified the suspected gunman as her estranged husband, Walter M. Alexander. Officers were dispatched at about 6:14 p.m., and investigators said the shooting occurred amid a dispute.
After the gunfire, the suspect fled in a silver Mercedes-Benz.
With assistance from La Vista police, Papillion officers pursued the vehicle and arrested Walter Alexander near 84th and Harrison Streets. He was booked into the Sarpy County Law Enforcement Center and initially held without bond. Prosecutors charged him with first-degree murder, use of a firearm to commit a felony, and flight to avoid arrest.
Court proceedings that followed resulted in a jury finding Walter Alexander guilty of manslaughter along with multiple related counts, including two counts of use of a firearm to commit a felony, terroristic threats, operating a motor vehicle to avoid arrest, and obstructing a peace officer. A Sarpy County judge later imposed a combined sentence totaling 61 to 86 years in prison.
