In the early evening of March 10, 2024, a sense of tragedy befell the community of Omaha, Nebraska. Taw Ner Moo, a 27-year-old male, was found with critical gunshot wounds near Fontenelle Park, in the vicinity of 48th and Pratt Streets, around 6:30 p.m. Emergency services rushed him to a local hospital, but his injuries proved to be fatal, and he was pronounced dead.
Friends and family remember him as a kind and vibrant person who had a passion for playing takraw and deeply cherished the time he spent with his loved ones.
The Omaha police investigation into the shooting quickly led them to identify a suspect vehicle near 46th Street and Ames Avenue. When officers attempted to pull the vehicle over, it sped away, initiating a high-speed chase. During the pursuit, a 17-year-old male passenger exited the car near 66th Street and Grand Avenue. He was promptly apprehended by the police, who found him in possession of a rifle.
The chase continued as the suspect vehicle crossed state lines into Iowa. The pursuit finally came to an end when the vehicle became disabled on Interstate 29. Two individuals remaining in the car, identified as 18-year-old Wah Say and 25-year-old Chit Lay, were then taken into custody. Both have since been charged with first-degree murder and weapons offenses in connection with the death of Taw Ner Moo. The Omaha community was left to mourn the sudden and violent loss of a young life.
